There are a number of great (free) flyer design programs and templates available on the internet that can provide considerable savings for your advertising campaign. Your main objective should be to find a free flyer design that was created with proven marketing techniques in mind. Your free flyer has to look great, but it also needs to generate the maximum potential sales.
Here are 3 “must know” tips to remember when using free flyer design programs.
Be Conscious of Image and Text Placement
One of the things you will notice is that there are usually boxes and editable fields on the template. The graphic designer who set up those fields placed them in strategic locations based on proven marketing techniques. For instance, items of prominence are placed either in the upper left hand corner or along the right side of the page. This is because we read from left to right, top to bottom. The first place the consumer’s eyes will naturally fall is on the upper left, and the last place they will view would be the right edge of the sheet as they turn the page over. When uploading images, keep them within the designated ‘boxes’ allocated for graphics because they are strategically placed for a reason.
Use High Resolution Images
Because those images are placed strategically where they will call attention to themselves, it is essential that you use high quality, high resolution images. As opposed to RGB color, it is important to save them in CYMK, or full color. The best format to save images or graphics in for uploading to be used on your flyer would be jpeg or gif file extensions. Although you are using a free flyer design program or template, you want the end product to have a professional appeal. The quality of your advertising directly reflects the quality of your business. Surveys have indicated that consumers place a higher degree of faith in businesses who advertise with quality printing as opposed to Xeroxed copies with illegible type and blurry images.
Text and Fonts
Just as there are boxes to add images to, there are text fields that are provided for you to customize your flyer’s message. Somewhere in the program or template, there should be an MS Word-type box where fonts can be selected. One bit of advice would be to use those fonts sparingly. It is acceptable to change the size and the color, but one of the cardinal sins of printed advertising is to go font-crazy. One font, perhaps two is fine, but using more than that is distracting from the theme or message of your flyer. If you notice the advertising that big corporations use, you will rarely see more than one font within a single advertisement. Also, make sure the text you place in those fillable fields is concise enough so that it does not wrap-around to additional lines or off the borders of the page. Keep text short and to the point so that it fits within the area the designer allocated.
Finding a free flyer design program or template is easy to do as there are a number of sites online where they can be downloaded from or customized using a web-based application. Keep these 3 tips in mind when customizing your flyer and your finished product will have a professional appeal that sells. Many people like to use web-based templates from a printer so that they simply need to hit ‘send’ when it’s complete and order as many copies as needed for their advertising campaign. Find an online printer who handles distribution for you and your job is done! Free flyer design programs make it just that easy.
